LLOYDMINSTER REAL ESTATE

Lloydminster Alberta In April of 1903, the arrival of the Barr colonists from England brought approximately 2600 people to settle in the Lloydminster area. It was named in honor of the man who led the colonists, Rev. Lloyd. The word Minster means "mother church".

As Canada's only border city, Lloydminster was located on the 4th Meridian in the Northwest Territories, it was divided in two in 1905 when Alberta and Saskatchewan's boundary was selected at the 4th Meridian. Alberta incorporated it as a village July 6th 1906, and Saskatchewan incorporated it as a town in April 1907. This peculiar situation resulted in the duplication of all municipal functions such as the creation of two two municipal offices, separate municipal councils and two fire departments. Common sense prevailed and the two communities were amalgamated into a single municipality - the Town of Lloydminster, by an Order-in-Council of both provinces on May 20, 1930. On January 1, 1958 the Town of Lloydminster received its charter as the City of Lloydminster and became the 10th City in both provinces.

Today, Lloydminster is proud of their unique city and surrounding region, their facilities and the hospitality make visitors feel welcome. The Lloydminster and District Centennial Commemorative Association has been formed to preserve and promote local history and to spearhead Lloydminster's Centennial Celebration in July, 2003. A local history book, Bordering on Greatness is now available.

The many lakes, campgrounds, and golf courses, as well as the Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Center, and the Bud Miller All Seasons Park will give you plenty to do and see. During your visit to Lloydminster take time to enjoy all that they have to offer.

Today, Lloydminster has a population of over 20,000 residents and it's land mass covers over 41 square kilometers.
